In this first episode of the Skipping Church Book Club we discuss 'Ordinary Men' by Christopher R. Browning. This piece of historical non fiction recounts the role of the 101st Reserve Police Battalion in Nazi Germany in the final solution in Poland and the Eastern Front. The author goes beyond a simple recounting of the atrocities committed by the battalion, examining the dark side of human nature and what could drive this group of unremarkable and average men to perpetrate some of the worst crimes against humanity in history.
